Special Olympics Benefit from Jo-Kell, Inc. Employees’ Swim
Chesapeake, VA (February 8, 2014) –Over 3,500 people took a chilly afternoon swim Saturday February 8th for the 22nd Annual Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics of Virginia. Participants raised over a million dollars for the year-round program, which provides athletic training and competition events for individuals of all ages with intellectual disabilities.
Contributing to the amount raised in the local Plunge were employees of local, woman-owned small business, Jo-Kell, Inc., who donated over $2,000 to the foundation. The employees were among the thousands of frozen participants, plunging for the Special Olympics of Virginia. Their team, “Jo-Kellsicles”, consisted of employees and their family members, who enjoyed a costume parade, music, entertainment, and sand sculptures in addition to their cold dip in the ocean.
“We are fortunate to have employees that are always eager to jump in and support a great cause in our community,” said Jo-Kell CEO, Suzy Kelly. “They are not only generous, but a courageous group of people, plunging into the frigid waters of the Atlantic Ocean in February!”
The Special Olympics of Virginia Polar Plunge takes place at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, attracting thousands of swimmers and more than 10,000 people in attendance. The annual event has been going on since its start in 1993.
