Jo-Kell Presents Food Donation and Funds to Local Charities
Chesapeake, VA (November 16, 2012) – Thousands of Hampton Roads residents received a much-appreciated warm meal, and a dozen new healthcare rooms are now available, thanks to local small business Jo-Kell, Inc. The company collects food and monetary donations from employees during their annual drive, located at their facility in Chesapeake.
Jo-Kell and its employees raised $8,000 for St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children. The donation went towards a 2012 expansion of 12 private rooms to care for adults at St. Mary’s. The company matched the monetary donations of their 59 employees from the drive.
The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia was also a recipient of Jo-Kell’s goodwill. Employees collected over 6,000 pounds of food, which provided over 3,000 meals in the local community. Debbie Mergi, Community Events Manager of The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia was present at the annual Mayflower Marathon to receive the donation.
Additionally, Jo-Kell employees in the Jacksonville, Florida facility collected 1,000 pounds of food for their local foodbank.
“Even in these tough economic times, our employees are generous in their giving to others”, explains Jo-Kell CEO, Suzy Kelly. “Each year, employees look forward to the food and money drive so they can support two of their favorite charities; St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children and our local Foodbank.”
The annual, month-long food and money drive began October 1, 2012 and concluded with an all day employee appreciation celebration on November 12, 2012, hosted by owners, Suzy and Marty Kelly, to show gratitude and recognition for all contributions not only for the past month, but throughout the year.
